Emergency Travel Insurance

posted: May 13, 2010

If you are enrolled in Extended Health Care coverage through an employee benefits plan, you and any covered dependents likely have all the travel insurance coverage you need if you are travelling outside your home province for a period of time.

When travelling, it is important to bring the following items with you:

  • Your Provincal Medical Care Card
  • Your Extended Health Care wallet card (usually contains your group policy number & certificate number)
  • The number to call if an emergency arises (usually listed on the back of the wallet card or in your employee benefits booklet)

Please note: travel insurance under a group insurance plan normally covers up to 90 days per trip. If you are planning to be outside of your home province for more than 3 months, you will need to purchase additional travel insurance. Also, group travel insurance covers medical emergencies only. It does not cover lost luggage and trip cancellation; however, coverage for these can be obtained for relatively cheap amounts.
